Find out the languages spoken in Wales in this section.

Welsh is a Celtic language, closely related to Cornish and Breton. It’s also one of Europe’s oldest living languages. The Welsh spoken today descends from the sixth century.

Although heavily influenced by neighboring England, Welsh is still widely spoken throughout the country and is the first language in many parts of the north and west. Welsh is also spoken on National Television and on radio stations. The Welsh are very proud of their language and are keen to see it survive. Books, magazines newspapers and the internet in Welsh are growing all the time.

But don’t worry, everyone speaks English too! The Welsh love to talk, in either of their languages. It’s almost a national sport. You’ll find it hard to get a word in.
